CNS Oncology

Tumors of the central nervous system (CNS) are the sixth most common form of cancer in adults and the most common form of solid cancer in children in the USA. Mortality rates remain high - primary CNS tumors are the second and fourth leading cause of cancer mortality in people under the ages of 34 and 54 years, respectively. Unfortunately, the prognosis for patients with malignant gliomas (the most common form of primary brain tumor) is largely unchanged from two decades ago, with survival being less than a year from diagnosis. Consequently, there is an urgent need to both develop effective new treatments and further the understanding of the biology for tumors arising in the CNS. CNS Oncology addresses key issues and current understanding in the diagnosis, staging and treatment of disease by exploring the best patient-centered clinical research and presenting this information both directly, as clinical findings, and in practice-oriented formats of direct relevance in the clinic.
